Dreams That Saved My Life
While we are sleeping angels have conversations with our souls.

The future lies in those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Eleanor Roosevelt
As we saw in the previous chapter, near-death experiences and the loss of a loved one can be awakening experiences, but this new millennium offers us all an unprecedented opportunity to wake up to the fact that we are spiritual beings. The ever-increasing number of angel encounters experienced by ordinary people all over the world suggests that the way forward is to become aware that there are many more aspects to our lives than those of the material world.
And one aspect of our lives that we all experience is dreaming. Everyone dreams. Whether we remember them or not we each have about 100,000 dreams over the course of our lives. The only reason most of us think we don’t dream is that we haven’t got into the habit of remembering our dreams. Dreams fade from our memory almost immediately on waking, so if you want to start recalling your dreams you need to keep a pen and paper by your bedside and as soon as you wake up write down whatever you recall.
Indeed, I strongly urge you to keep a journal of your dreams. You may not realise it but significant messages are constantly being given to you in your dreams and all you need to do is become more aware of them. This awareness may lead to the thought, or perhaps even provide the evidence, that your daily life is not the only reality and when you dream you enter another reality that is boundless. It is well known that some of the world’s greatest art, music, literature and inventions have been born out of the magic of dreams and, as you’ll see later in this chapter when we discuss premonitions, dreams can also save lives.
Elderly people have often said to me that the older they get, the more their lives seem dream-like. It is sometimes said that when we are in the dream state it is a kind of preparation for when we pass over, as we become aware of life in spirit. And yet despite this, for whatever reason, dreams can sometimes seem so very hard to understand or interpret, but that is simply because the language of dreams is different from our own. It is the language of symbols.
The great majority of your dreams should not be interpreted literally. You need to identify the symbols that appear and see what meaning they have to you. There are plenty of books around to help you understand the language of dream symbols – and I’ve written one or two myself – but, although these books can help you unravel the mystery, they can never provide a definitive interpretation. This is because what matters most when it comes to dream interpretation is the personal meaning dream images have for you. For example, if you are afraid of dogs the image of a dog in a dream will have a very different interpretation than it will for someone who adores dogs.
